Connecting Landowners and Beekeepers
Hosting a beehive on someone else’s property, a practice commonly known as "out-yarding" or "host-a-hive," is becoming increasingly popular. This arrangement offers significant advantages for both the beekeeper and the landowner.
If you are interested in expanding your apiaries but lack the necessary space, hosting can be an ideal solution. It allows beekeepers to keep more hives without the constraints of their own property.
Our club Secretary maintains a list of landowners who are interested in hosting a beehive. If you wish to participate, simply send an email to the Secretary via the Contact Us link at the bottom of the page. The club is ready to assist throughout the process and provides a standardized contract template to help you get started.
Key Benefits of Hosting a Beehive
Access to Better Forage
One of the greatest advantages is the opportunity to locate bees in a "honey hole"—areas with outstanding nectar sources such as organic farms, wildflower meadows, or orchards. These locations often produce more honey than a typical backyard.
Increased Pollination
The immediate benefit for landowners is improved pollination. Homeowners with fruit trees, berry bushes, or vegetable gardens frequently see a marked increase in crop yield due to the enhanced presence of pollinators.
Tax Incentives
In some regions, having active honey bee colonies on a property may help landowners qualify for agricultural tax exemptions, resulting in considerable savings on property taxes.
